Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks an interpreter to serve as a cultural broker between school staff, students, parents/guardians, and the community. The role provides ongoing interpretation of messages between languages and supports multilingual families with access to services.

Essential functions include facilitating accurate interpretation, collaborating with ESOL and teachers, and coordinating outreach to immigrant communities, ensuring equitable access for all multilingual students

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• If educated outside the US, credentials verified via PDE Evaluation service recommended.
• Must speak, read and write English and the appropriate foreign language fluently.
• Interpret oral and written information; coordinate outreach and records.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between school staff, students, and parents/guardians by providing accurate interpretation.
• Collaborates with ESOL and other teachers by interpreting rubrics and instructions for classroom activities.
• Provides ongoing communication about student performance, attendance and behavior.
• Participates in discussions with counselors and students to assist in planning post-secondary goals.
• Encourages parent engagement through culturally-informed outreach and notices of meetings.
