Job summary

Pillars Community Health in La Grange Park, IL seeks a Dental Assistant to support dentists and hygienists in the operatory, set up rooms, sterilize tools, and translate between English and Spanish. You will handle referrals, patient education, and clerical tasks to keep the dental center operating smoothly.

Requirements include a dental assistant training program completion and CPR certification. Coronal polishing certification is preferred, with experience in nonprofit or community health

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certificate of completion of a Dental Assistant Training program.
  • Coronal polishing and Pit/Fissure Sealant certification preferred.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides accurate Spanish/English interpretation for dentists, dental hygienists, and patients and translates written materials as needed.
  • Assists dentists with all dental procedures including surgery.
  • Constructs night guards.
  • Conducts patient education programs.
  • Distributes patient education materials and explains treatment.
  • Cleans, sterilizes and maintains dental equipment and operatories.
  • Schedules appointments as necessary.
  • Participates in continuing professional development to keep informed of clinical practices.
  • Answers inquiries about dental services.
  • Performs general clerical duties.
  • Maintains patient information and confidentiality according to laws and policies.
  • Adheres to Radiation Safety, Infection Control and customer service guidelines.

Job description

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Team Lead and VP of Dental Services, the DA provides skilled dental clinical support to assist the Dentist(s) and Hygienist(s) in the dental operatory. Assist with referrals, sets up operatory, sterilizes tools, sanitizes chairs and equipment according to standard, monitor patients during treatment, provides clerical, clinical and maintenance support for the effective functioning of the Dental Center; provides interpretation services between patient and provider(s) as necessary helping patients maintain and improve their oral health. Treats patients professionally and with dignity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adheres to OSHA guidelines for a safe work environment
  • Follows all rules required to comply with confidentiality and HIPAA policies.
  • Complies with applicable laws and regulations and the corporate compliance program

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of a Dental Assistant Training program.
  • Coronal polishing and Pit/Fissure Sealant certification preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Dental Assistant preferred. Experience conducting patient education, cleaning, sterilizing and maintaining dental equipment is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit or community health center preferred.
  • CPR certified.
LANGUAGE

Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluency required.

DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES
  • Chairside assistance.
  • Ability to communicate dental procedures and terminology to and with patients & dental professionals.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple tasks from more than one person at a time.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, ECW or other EHR software).
  • Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, Safety Data Sheets.
SCHEDULE

To support expanded hours of operation for the Health Center, daily clinic hours begin at 8 AM and close at 8:30 pm Monday-Thursday. The clinic closes at 5 pm on Friday and 1 pm on Saturday. Staff are required to provide coverage on at least one (1) evening each week and participate in a Saturday rotation.

PAY & BENEFIT INFORMATION

$17.50 – $23.00 per hour*

* Wage is based on one’s experience and clinical skill competencies as compared with our position requirements and other similar employees within the organization. Staff are eligible for increases in compensation as clinical competency tiers are achieved.
