Description

The Bridge is in search of a Bilingual Community Organizer-Sexual Violence Prevention who addresses the root causes and promotes the protective factors of sexual violence in Pasadena and South Houston through community organizing activities. The Organizer will provide guidance and support to young people, community members and professionals who are interested in leading the efforts to prevent sexual violence in our community.

Participate in local, regional and statewide training addressing primary prevention of sexual violence. Conduct primary prevention of sexual violence programming 90% of the staff’s time, through the Close to Home curriculum within the community. Attend community events hosted by various organizations and institutions, to enhance our program community partners and allies. Recruit, support and adults and young people in our community leading efforts to prevent sexual violence through engaging in critical conversations and action.

Assist in the planning, development and implementation of community events that enhance a sense of connection, empathy, and emotional wellness. Organize and implement program documentation tools to track qualitative and quantitative data and program progress. Plan and host networking and community engagement sessions to connect individuals with one another and foster interest in our primary prevention of sexual violence programming. Orient, train, and support project teams comprised of community members plan and implement activities in the community that will foster safe and healthy social norms in our community in order to prevent sexual violence. Assist in the completion of quarterly progress reports for the OAG-Federal Grant.

Facilitate conversations concerning healthy relationships, teen dating violence, and related topics to young people and adults in community. Provide crisis intervention services by answering 24 hour hotline as needed. Assist with Education & Prevention Department events (i.e. training, awareness months, and special events) by coordinating sponsorship of meals, supplies, registration process, preparation of certificates, and set-up/clean-up of training area. Keep abreast of current incidents of sexual and domestic violence by researching internet and local newspapers, and update social media as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is preferred; however, preference will be given to those with experience in the field of social work and public health, as well as those with experience working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
  • Knowledge of sexual violence, crisis intervention and primary prevention of sexual violence
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate educational group sessions and make public presentations and develop, implement and monitor culturally competent programming to youth and adults.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule; including weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the preparation of written reports and general business correspondence.
  • Knowledge of root causes of sexual and domestic violence; ability to facilitate discussions on oppression and gender socialization
  • Conflict resolution and facilitation skills; ability to highlight common goals and perspectives in group setting.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic and sexual violence; persons experiencing homelessness and persons with special needs
  • Knowledge of community and legal resources to assist survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness and persons with special needs
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish rapport with diverse populations.
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor a program budget
  • Must have reliable transportation; position is 50% local travel

Other Requirements

  • Must pass criminal background investigation check
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must provide and maintain current TX Driver’s License
  • Must provide and maintain clean driving record and annually update driving record
  • Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
  • Must be able to lift/carry (40) lbs, and ascend/descend stairs in emergency shelter setting
