Whosonthemove is seeking a Children's Advocate in Georgetown, SC, to ensure that victims of abuse are treated with dignity and respect. The advocate will manage client intakes, educate families on the recovery process, and assist victims in accessing resources. This role plays a critical part in safeguarding and supporting vulnerable children through the legal system while working closely with various agencies and advocates.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field such as criminal justice, psychology, or social work.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid SC Driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrate a wide range of computer skills including Microsoft office, Collaborate Database, Adobe and Vidanyx software.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts pre-appointment client intakes for Georgetown Clients.
  • Explains the forensic interview process to the child and parent/guardian.
  • Aids each eligible victim in applying for assistance and ensures they are aware of their rights.
  • Intervenes with appropriate agencies through the investigative process.
  • Follows updates and changes to applicable laws related to victims’ rights.
  • Ensures necessary measures are taken to protect victims and witnesses.

Job description

The Children’s advocate is responsible for ensuring that all victims of abuse referred to at the Children’s Recovery Center are treated with dignity, respect, courtesy and sensitivity. The Children’s Advocate acts as the child’s personal advocate.

Duties
  • Conducts pre-appointment client intakes for Georgetown Clients and coordinate with CRC staff and MDT partners to schedule clients.
  • Explains the Children’s Recovery Center’s forensic interview and forensic medical exam process to the child and parent/guardian and answers any questions they may have about this process.
  • Aids each eligible victim in applying for assistance, social service, and counseling assistance. Ensures all victims of crimes are aware of their rights in each case.
  • Intervenes with and seeks assistance from appropriate agencies and works with other parties as considered appropriate through the investigative process.
  • Follows updates and changes to applicable laws related to victims’ rights. Maintains familiarity with the statutes pertaining to protect orders, restraining orders, etc., and follows established procedures for obtaining required orders as necessary for a victim.
  • Ensures all measures necessary are taken to protect the victims and witnesses from further harassment, intimidation, or abuse throughout the criminal justice system.

Supervision and Reporting Relationships

Immediate Supervisor: Director of Operations

Supervision Exercised: volunteers and clerical support.

Cooperative Relationships: Works in cooperation with Horry County Victims’ Advocates, Horry County MDT Coordinator, Forensic Coordinator, and Forensic Interviewers.
