Job summary

National Youth Advocate Program seeks an Assistant Educator for La Jornada in Tucson, AZ. The role supports teaching staff, helps develop lesson plans aligned with state standards, and collaborates to monitor each child’s progress.

Ideal candidates hold an Associate degree in education or ECE, are bilingual in English and Spanish, and bring 2+ years of classroom experience with minority children. Must be 21+, with a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in education and/or early childhood education (preferred).
• ECE certification preferred.
• 2+ years’ experience as a Teacher Assistant or Paraprofessional with minority children.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish; Spanish fluency required.
• 21+ years old with a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing lesson plans based on state requirements and student needs.
• Collaborate with Lead Educator to monitor academic progress.
• Deliver daily lesson plans and support classroom operations when the teacher is absent.
• Work with individual children to promote learning and development.

Provide feedback to the Lead Educator about the progress of the children and discuss important issues pertaining to the children on a regular basis.RESPONSIBILITIESThe Assistant Educator for La Jornada will perform duties including, but not limited to:Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s mission, values, and philosophies.Assist in developing lesson plans based on state requirements and the specific needs of each child.Collaborate with the educator to monitor the academic progress of each child.Collaborate with the educator to deliver daily lesson plans, as well as understand how the classroom is run in the event that the teacher is absent on a particular day.Work with individual children in the classroom to promote their learning and development.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAssociate degree in education and/or early childhood education preferably.Valid ECE certification preferred.2+ years’ experience as a Teacher Assistant or Paraprofessional, working with minority children in a classroom environment.Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets, printers, fax machines, and photocopiers, as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.Bilingual (English Spanish).
