What you will do at Precinct One

The Bike Assistant supports implementing and managing our RideOne Program, which promotes cycling education, safety, and community engagement. The Bike Assistant will work closely with the RideOne Program Manager to ensure the program's smooth operation, including facilitating classes, engaging with participants, and supporting events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with program setup and participate as needed in Bike Programs.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is prepared and ready for each session.
  • Provide support to participants during activities to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the RideOne Program Manager to plan and promote cycling-related activities.
  • Perform data entry related to participant registration, inventory tracking, and general program operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and support the administrative aspects of the program.
  • Provide inventory management and budget assistance as needed.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all program equipment and supplies.
  • Recommend requisitions for new equipment as necessary and assist the program manager with budget preparation to ensure the program is well-equipped and financially sound.
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will bring to Precinct One

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

Experience:

  • One (1) year ofrelated work experience in clerical support and/or community programs, recreation/wellness, or a similar environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications which could include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

Licensure:

  • Valid driver’s license (Texas upon hire)
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified or ability to obtain within one year of employment
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Temporary Position, Grant-funded, End date of September 2025
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Engage with diverse community members and foster participation in programs
  • Basic knowledge of tracking attendance, compiling data, and preparing reports on program outcomes
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with community members, partners, stakeholders
  • Ability to provide friendly and supportive services to community participants, responding to questions and concerns
  • Skills in organizing and coordinating events, activities, or workshops
  • Critical thinking skills to handle issues or conflicts that may arise during program implementation
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently
  • Flexibility to handle changes in program schedules or unexpected challenges
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with community members from diverse backgrounds
  • Focus on ensuring accuracy in data collection, reporting, and administrative tasks.
  • Ability to understand and support the needs of vulnerable or underserved populations in the community

  • Associate’s degree in Recreation/Leisure Management or a related field (preferred)

About Precinct One
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners, along with an elected county judge, serve as members of the Harris County Commissioners Court, the administrative head of the county’s government.

With approximately 1.1 million residents, Harris County Precinct One is a diverse, urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct One’s multi-racial, multi-ethnic population is roughly 39 percent African American, 37 percent Latino, 18 percent Anglo, 5 percent Asian, and 1 percent other.

Precinct One, which includes 876 miles of road, stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precinct’s territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston, including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex, Toyota Center, Minute Maid Park, and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College, Rice University, Texas Southern University, the University of Houston, and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 20 parks, 11 community centers, numerous hike-and-bike trails, three maintenance service centers, and several area offices, all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.
