Job summary

South Bay Christian Alliance in Chula Vista, CA is seeking a Bi-vocational Associate Pastor to collaborate with the Lead Pastor. You will disciple volunteers, nurture ministry teams, and mentor emerging leaders while shepherding and teaching the congregation.

You will balance ministry with outside employment, lead Sunday worship, and support missions and outreach. Qualifications include strong faith, governance skills, theological education, and CMA alignment.

Qualifications

• Growing relationship with Jesus Christ and active faith.
• Strong organizational and research skills.
• Proficiency with Planning Center, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Asana, and Proclaim.
• Relational, collaborative, and strong communication abilities.
• Ability to develop leaders rather than do all ministry alone.
• Agreement with SBCA’s mission, vision, and values and CMA faith statement.
• Evidence of formal theological education and CMA ordination status.

Responsibilities

• Lead and equip ministry volunteers with vision and pastoral care.
• Oversight of ministry leaders and teams (Elders, Board, Deacons, Next Gen, Discipleship).
• Coordinate regular Elder/Board/Deacon/Membership meetings.
• Preach 1–2 Sundays per month and lead Bible study and prayer.
• Pastoral care, counseling, and evangelism with congregants.
• Support global missions via SBCA’s five-part partnership strategy.
• Participate in outreach, events, and budget planning.
• Ensure safe ministry practices and child protection policies.
• Oversee facilities, calendar, rentals, and vendor relations.
