Job summary

South Bay Christian Alliance in Chula Vista, CA seeks an Associate Pastor to work with the Lead Pastor, equipping volunteers and guiding spiritual growth. The role emphasizes discipleship, leadership development, and pastoral care within a bi-vocational context.

The position requires facilitating worship, bible study, and church planning while collaborating with elders, deacons, and ministry teams. A licensing pathway with C&MA is part of the process.

Qualifications

• Growing relationship with Jesus Christ and character marked by humility and integrity.
• Strong organizational, relational and communication skills; lead through teams.
• Ability to disciple and mentor leaders rather than doing all ministry alone.
• Agree with SBCA mission, vision and values and with the C&MA faith.
• Ordination in process or willingness to be ordained in the C&MA.

Responsibilities

• Lead, equip and disciple volunteers with vision and pastoral care.
• Nurture healthy ministry teams and mentor emerging leaders.
• Oversee ministry leaders, elders, deacons, and Next Gen/Discipleship directors.
• Attend leadership meetings and shepherd congregants through care and counseling.
• Preach 1–2 Sundays per month; lead Bible study and prayer; evangelize.
• Support missions via SBCA's Global Partnership; plan events and budgets.
