Reporting to the Director of BI, the BI Business Analyst III analyzes complex business problems and issues using data from internal and external sources to provide insight to decision-makers. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets to locate influences. Constructs forecasts, recommendations and strategic/tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge. Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and required or available data elements. May provide consultation to users and lead cross-functional teams to address business issues. May directly produce datasets and reports for analysis using system reporting tools.

Role qualifications:

  • Bachelors preferred. Equivalent work experience considered
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in business analysis in technology and/or health care environment.
  • Experience working with healthcare and/or internet applications.
  • Strong analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements
  • 3+ years of experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. QuickSight, Tableau, Cognos)
  • 2+ years of data analysis experience working with big data
  • 3+ years of experience using SQL
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and make sound decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to work under pressure. Maintains composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to multitask

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Healthcare industry, in particular health care data
  • Experience designing, building and maintaining cloud-based applications leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform
  • Familiarity with on-premise and cloud data architecture patterns
  • Versed in developing multiple data pipelines and different data file formats

What you will be doing:

  • Participate in the development, implementation, and support of a product strategy as directed by the Director of BI, while gaining an understanding of the Availity corporate strategy, competitors’ market position, strengths/ weaknesses, and customer needs.
  • Define configuration specifications and business analysis requirements.
  • Define reporting and alerting requirements around BI processes that include cloud cost, performance, and health.
  • Design and maintain repeatable processes by breaking down complex data and analytic work efforts
  • Create and maintain a BI operating runbook to support troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Monitor, identify, and communicate common sources of technical issues or questions and make recommendations to the team
  • Liaise between the BI team and internal/external customers. Typical customers include health plans, product teams, and account managers.
  • Monitor deliverables and ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Prepare detailed written documentation that is professional in appearance, using appropriate templates.
  • Working with development of products and solutions for Availity’s Provider from business process architecture and design through ongoing support. This includes working directly with product and customers in both a product and delivery capacity.
  • Working with the development, enhancement and maintenance of code to support strategic efforts and ensure ongoing systems performance and integrity
  • Completing the groundwork that is needed to build complex data products
  • Sizing new requests for customer requests on data products
  • Leading the improvement processes that impact internal operations, customer satisfaction and relationships (e.g. Agile, DevOps, etc.)
