Full time 40 hrs. GRANT FUNDED
Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Peer Recovery Specialist provides direct patient care under the guidance of a designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.
Essential Job Functions
Facilitates individual and/or support groups (within scope). May participate in family meetings and treatment team meetings.
Provides post-discharge follow-up; documents in the medical record on patient progress and goal setting.
Community resource knowledge and navigation; particularly in the area of housing, vocational, food insecurities, transportation, etc.
Provides overdose prevention and education on Naloxone utilization.
Provides linkage and referral to appropriate community services and resources.
May provide screenings for social determinants of health (SDOH) and substance use disorder (SUD).
Successfully participates to complete BSMH and departmental specific training as required.

Licensing/Certification
Certified Peer Specialist per state guidelines (required). National Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (preferred).
Education
High School Diploma/GED (required).
Work Experience
1 year in healthcare, social or human services setting (required).

Patient Population
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit, including understanding principles of growth and development and assessing data reflective of the patient's status to identify requirements and provide appropriate care.
Working Conditions
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. May be exposed to high noise levels, bright lights, physical altercations, verbal abuse, hazardous substances, body fluids, adverse weather, and require travel. May work alone for periods.
