Job Description

  2. The BH Licensed Clinician (BHLC) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use services at WakeMed through in-person and tele assessments.
  3. The BHLC conducts emergency psychiatric and substance use clinical assessments, diagnoses patients using DSM-5 and ICD-10 codes, offers crisis intervention, supportive counseling, social work interventions, and responds to ED BHRTs.
  4. Focuses on diagnostic and functional evaluations, safety assessments, patient engagement, and support system effectiveness.
  5. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, psychiatry, and psychology staff.
  6. Decides and communicates disposition and level of care, facilitates voluntary and involuntary commitments as directed by the physician.
  7. Assists with diagnostic clarification, post-discharge treatment recommendations, identification of treatment options, high-risk behavior mitigation, and prevention planning.
  8. Advises patients, families, and medical providers to improve quality and continuum of care.
  9. Participates in hospital and community initiatives addressing mental health and substance use issues.
  10. Provides expertise, in-service education, and support to the multidisciplinary team regarding mental health and substance use issues.
  11. Maintains knowledge of relevant behavioral health, medical, and legal issues affecting patients and the hospital system.
  12. Documents assessments, dispositions, interactions, and conversations according to department standards.
  13. Works independently, prioritizes, manages time efficiently, and demonstrates flexibility in accepting diverse work assignments.
  14. Manages stress related to change and resolves conflicts effectively.
