- The BH Licensed Clinician (BHLC) is responsible for providing mental health and substance use services at WakeMed through in-person and tele assessments.
- The BHLC conducts emergency psychiatric and substance use clinical assessments, diagnoses patients using DSM-5 and ICD-10 codes, offers crisis intervention, supportive counseling, social work interventions, and responds to ED BHRTs.
- Focuses on diagnostic and functional evaluations, safety assessments, patient engagement, and support system effectiveness.
- Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, psychiatry, and psychology staff.
- Decides and communicates disposition and level of care, facilitates voluntary and involuntary commitments as directed by the physician.
- Assists with diagnostic clarification, post-discharge treatment recommendations, identification of treatment options, high-risk behavior mitigation, and prevention planning.
- Advises patients, families, and medical providers to improve quality and continuum of care.
- Participates in hospital and community initiatives addressing mental health and substance use issues.
- Provides expertise, in-service education, and support to the multidisciplinary team regarding mental health and substance use issues.
- Maintains knowledge of relevant behavioral health, medical, and legal issues affecting patients and the hospital system.
- Documents assessments, dispositions, interactions, and conversations according to department standards.
- Works independently, prioritizes, manages time efficiently, and demonstrates flexibility in accepting diverse work assignments.
- Manages stress related to change and resolves conflicts effectively.
