The State of Vermont seeks a Maintenance Mechanic III for the Operations & Management Division. This is a full-time role responsible for maintaining various state buildings in St. Albans. Candidates must have relevant experience, a valid driver's license, and be prepared for physical demands of the job, including travel between buildings and emergency repairs.
Buildings & General Service at the State of Vermont has an exciting and unique opportunity with room for growth as a Maintenance Mechanic III within the Operations & Management Division.
This position will be part of a team responsible for the daily maintenance of several buildings in the St. Albans area, including the Franklin Superior courthouse, several rest areas, a state police barracks, and the new Physically Secure Recovery Residence being built in Essex Junction. Travel between locations is a daily activity and will utilize a state owned and/or a privately owned vehicle. This position requires a valid driver’s license and successful completion of multiple criminal record/background checks.
This is a full-time position and the hours are Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm.

Duties are performed at state buildings including correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage, for which protective clothing must be worn. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. Certain positions may require possession of a valid driver's license. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular working hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
High school diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of experience in building construction, structural maintenance, or building repair and maintenance INCLUDING two (2) years or more at an independent level in building repair and maintenance.
OR
Completion of a one (1) year vocational/technical training program in building trades, mechanical repair, industrial arts or a closely related field AND two (2) years or more of experience at an independent level in building repair and maintenance.
OR
State licensure at the journeyman or master level in any trade area.
