Job description

About Us

The Just One Project's mission is to increase access to food, resources, and supportive services to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected community. We have a culture of attracting passionate and talented people who believe in strong values, work-life balance, diversity, and making a meaningful impact in the community.

We know that our culture directly affects the experience of the people we serve, which is why every program is designed with our clients in mind. We are client-centric, and everything we do is guided by our commitment to treating people with dignity, compassion, and respect.

We're looking for someone who doesn't just connect with our mission, but brings it to life through every client interaction, conversation, referral, and success.

About the Role

As a Veteran Housing Case Manager, you'll work directly with individuals experiencing homelessness who are staying at BETterment, helping them navigate the path toward permanent housing, greater stability, and long-term self-sufficiency.

This role is about much more than connecting someone to a resource. You'll get to know your clients, understand the barriers they're facing, and work alongside them to develop realistic, individualized goals. From navigating housing and community resources to strengthening financial skills and supporting clients through difficult moments, you'll be an important part of helping each person move forward.

You’ll help clients identify permanent housing solutions that fit their individual needs while connecting them with the services and tools that can support long-term success. You’ll also collaborate closely with landlords, community partners, fellow case managers, and other service providers to make sure clients have access to as many resources as possible.

Some days will be spent meeting one-on-one with clients, while others may involve coordinating referrals, documenting progress, participating in case conferences, conducting a home visit, or helping someone navigate an unexpected crisis.

If you're compassionate, resourceful, organized, and motivated by seeing people achieve meaningful progress, this could be a great opportunity to make a direct impact in our community.

What You'll Do
  • Conduct assessments to understand each client's needs, strengths, goals, and barriers to long-term stability
  • Partner with clients to create individualized action plans focused on housing, health, financial stability, and other essential needs
  • Help clients identify and navigate permanent housing opportunities that meet their individual circumstances
  • Connect clients with community resources, supportive services, and appropriate referrals
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and landlords throughout the housing process
  • Build and maintain a strong, timely referral network for housing and other supportive services
  • Encourage and empower clients as they build independence, self-sufficiency, confidence, and stability
  • Provide ongoing case management by monitoring progress, reassessing needs, and adjusting service plans when circumstances change
  • Conduct regular monthly assessments to make sure clients are receiving the support they need
  • Provide immediate support and intervention during client crises, including safety planning and connections to emergency services when necessary
  • Help clients develop practical financial skills through budgeting, saving, debt management, and financial literacy
  • Collaborate with the Workforce Case Manager and connect clients with nutrition education support
  • Mediate challenges that may threaten a client's housing stability or self-sufficiency
  • Maintain current knowledge of community resources, eligibility requirements, and application processes
  • Participate in trainings and meetings to stay informed about available social services and best practices
  • Provide services that are responsive to the cultural, social, and linguistic needs of each client
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive case notes documenting client progress, assessments, services, and relevant correspondence
  • Enter services, referrals, recommendations, case notes, and required program documentation into HMIS and Salesforce within one business day of client contact
  • Keep required shared spreadsheets, forms, reports, and program documentation accurate and up to date
  • Prepare and submit weekly client success stories to your supervisor, Marketing, and Grants
  • Participate in internal and external case conferences to help clients access wrap-around services
  • Collaborate with your supervisor on complex cases and bring creative solutions to challenges
  • Conduct client home visits as needed
  • Participate in six mandatory Pop Up & Give events annually
  • Pitch in with additional program and organizational responsibilities as needed
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (required)
  • 3+ year of nonprofit experience (required)
  • 3+ year of experience in case management, social services, or community outreach(required)
  • English and Spanish Speaking(required)
  • Experience working directly with diverse populations, including vulnerable or at-risk individuals
  • Relevant certifications in case management and conflict resolution
  • Familiarity with housing services, wrap-around programs, or self-sufficiency initiatives
  • Experience managing a caseload and helping clients achieve measurable outcomes related to stability and self-reliance
  • Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong documentation and data-entry skills
  • Comfort using client management and tracking systems for case notes, referrals, and program compliance
  • The ability to build trust and rapport while maintaining professional boundaries
  • Strong problem-solving, mediation, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to connect clients with appropriate services
  • The ability to guide clients through budgeting, financial planning, and other important life skills
  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license and reliable transportation
  • A genuine commitment to helping clients build independence while treating every individual with dignity and respect
  • Alignment with the mission and values of The Just One Project
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with SNAP program procedures and requirements
What the Work Looks Like

  • Health, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • Additional insurance options including Life Insurance, AD&D, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Short and Long Term Disability, and Pet Insurance
