POSITION SUMMARY:

The Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST) Criminal Justice Diversion Police Co-responder provides direct services to children, adolescents, and adults in crisis. This clinician will work collaboratively with the Boston Police to assist officers with calls involving individuals exhibiting signs of mental distress, conduct on-site assessments, and facilitate rapid access to community mental health, substance abuse, and psychiatric services, including urgent linkage to other components of the BEST system.

Schedule: Full Time, 40 Hours

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Master's degree in a mental health field (social work, psychology, or relevant field) or the ability to obtain one prior to the start date. Clinical licensure is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience delivering mental health services to traumatized children or families is a plus. Clinical counseling experience with families affected by violence or trauma is desirable.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of community resources and agencies serving families affected by trauma or homicide.
  • Experience working with crisis intervention services is desirable.
  • Ability to function and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively on an interdisciplinary team.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort working with diverse racial and ethnic populations.
  • Organized work style, strong follow-through skills, and ability to maintain organized written documentation.
  • Demonstrated skills in providing services in a multicultural environment. Experience in health or hospital settings is a plus.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills relevant to the patient population served are a plus.

Preference will be given to applicants who reflect the cultural and language diversity of the Boston Medical Center patient population.
