Job summary

Partnersbend in Bend, Oregon is seeking a Bereavement Counselor to assist in planning and implementing their Bereavement Program. The successful candidate will coordinate assessments, develop care plans for bereaved families, and facilitate support groups.

This part-time position (24 hours per week) offers a competitive hourly wage of $27.98-$44.66 based on experience. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree and experience in grief counseling, alongside strong communication and teamwork skills.

Status

Part‑time (hourly, non‑exempt) 24 hours per week.

Compensation

$27.98-$44.66 per hour based on experience.

Hours

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday‑Friday. Scheduled days to be determined by department supervisor.

Partners In Care Administrative Office in Bend, Oregon.

Summary / Objective

The Bereavement Counselor is responsible for assisting in planning, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of the Partners In Care Bereavement Program.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates and conducts the Bereavement assessment process. Provides grief counseling, education and support services to hospice families/caregivers per established protocols.
  • Coordinates and develops a Bereavement Plan of Care to meet the identified needs of the bereaved.
  • Assists in developing the Grief/Loss Support Group schedule and facilitates grief‑and‑loss support group services.
  • Provides bereavement support to Organization staff coping with grief/loss issues as requested and assists in planning/coordinating other services to meet staff support needs.
  • Provides bereavement information, referral, and support services to community members seeking assistance.
  • Liaises/consults with related community agencies and resources regarding bereavement issues.
  • Functions as part of the Interdisciplinary Care Team, coordinating/consulting with other team members to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of bereavement services/support both prior to and after a patient’s death.
  • Assists in training, assigning, supervising, and supporting bereavement volunteers.
  • Assists in planning/coordinating Hospice Memorial events, other special events/educational programming related to grief/loss.
  • Participates in community education events.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation/records per Department standards/protocols.
  • Assists in developing and conducting Quality Improvement activities to ensure ongoing assessment and improvement of Bereavement services provided.
  • Assists with other Department administrative functions such as program development; budgetary functions; collecting/reporting quality indicators/statistics as needed.
  • Participates in educational activities to promote continued clinical professional development.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Adheres to the PIC mission and values. Supports the organization.
Work Environment

Category 3 ― Position includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues; would not be required to perform Category I tasks.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Experience/education in grief/loss counseling.
  • Experience in and ability to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ideal candidates will have 1‑2 years of experience in home health or hospice.
  • Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Ability to pass a background test, drug screen, and TB test.
  • Valid CPR Certification.
  • Current automobile insurance, a valid Oregon driver’s license, and reliable transportation are required for those working in the field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
