Job summary

Dahl Consulting, a partner for HR and workforce solutions, seeks a Benefits Specialist in Detroit Lakes, MN to support benefit programs and employee experience.

You will handle enrollment, eligibility, and claims, while ensuring compliance and accurate recordkeeping within the HRIS system. This is a detail-oriented role within a collaborative HR team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with employee enrollment, changes, and termination of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans.
  • Maintain accurate employee benefits records within the HRIS system.
  • Process benefits-related data and support compliance reporting requirements, including ACA reporting.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding benefit plans, policies, and eligibility requirements.
  • Assist employees with claims issues, benefit concerns, and plan-related inquiries.
  • Educate employees on available benefit options to help them make informed decisions.
  • Serve as a liaison between employees and third-party benefit providers.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers, retirement plan administrators, and other vendors to resolve issues.
  • Track and follow up on claims and service-related concerns.
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ACA, HIPAA, and ERISA requirements.
  • Assist with benefit audits, reporting, documentation, and regulatory filings.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential benefits records.
  • Assist in developing and distributing open enrollment materials, benefit summaries, and policy updates.
  • Support benefits education initiatives, employee training sessions, and informational workshops.
  • Ensure employees receive timely and accurate benefits communications.
  • Provide guidance during annual open enrollment periods.
  • Help employees complete benefit elections and ensure all documentation is processed accurately and on time.
  • Prepare reports related to enrollment activity, benefits utilization, and program costs.
  • Support leave administration processes, including FMLA and short-term disability tracking.

Job Description

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration, communication, and maintenance of employee benefit programs. This role serves as a resource for employees regarding benefits enrollment, eligibility, claims, and plan options while ensuring accurate recordkeeping and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
  • Assist with employee enrollment, changes, and termination of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans.

  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and benefits administration processes.
  • Understanding of compliance regulations such as HIPAA, ERISA, ACA, FMLA, and related employment laws.
  • Experience working with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, or benefits vendors.
