Job Summary

The Benefits Manager is responsible for the management, oversight, and administration of the benefits programs for the organization. This role is instrumental in developing short- and long-term strategies, ensuring competitive and cost-effective health, welfare, and retirement plans in the U.S. The Benefits Manager stays abreast of marketplace trends to continuously improve existing benefits programs, provides analytical support, and ensures ongoing program compliance.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide effective leadership, development, coaching, and guidance to an assigned team. Delegate responsibilities appropriately.
  • Select and leverage vendor relationships and platforms for efficient, automated, and cost-effective benefit program administration. Manage vendor performance per service level agreements.
  • Design, implement, and communicate affordable and competitive benefits programs to attract and retain employees.
  • Align benefits programs with corporate strategies and objectives.
  • Develop and deliver strategic recommendations to meet the needs of a diverse workforce while maintaining legal compliance.
  • Contribute to national union negotiations related to benefits programs.
  • Assist in due diligence for acquisitions and lead benefit integration during mergers.
  • Work with consultants to analyze benefits inventory and market data to assess competitiveness.
  • Provide training and support to HR Business Partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage broker relationships, review plan designs, and ensure effectiveness, affordability, and compliance.
  • Oversee wellness strategies for health improvement.
  • Manage annual planning, implementation, communication, and financial forecasting.
  • Collaborate with Compensation and HRIS teams to meet total rewards objectives.
  • Maintain benefits inventory data for renewals and prepare presentations for senior leaders.
  • Manage 401(k) plan administration and strategy, and serve as liaison to the Investment Committee and advisors.
  • Partner with vendors for discrimination testing, plan audits, and government filings.
  • Develop leave administration processes and educate HRBPs on compliance with leave regulations.
  • Serve as the company liaison for escalated vendor issues.
  • Support HR initiatives and organizational effectiveness programs.
  • Ensure delivery of excellent customer service and tangible outputs.
  • Perform other duties, including potential travel.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience.
  • At least 7 years of experience as a Benefits Manager, including strategic planning and implementation.
  • Experience designing health, welfare, and retirement plans, including international benefits is a plus.
  • Benefits certification (e.g., CEBS, GBA) and HR certification (e.g., PHR) preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Primarily sedentary work with occasional walking, standing, bending, or lifting up to 15 pounds.
Additional Info
  • Strong understanding of federal and state laws (ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, ADA, HIPAA, PPA, ACA).
  • Knowledge of financial principles and actuarial methodologies.
  • Technical competency in benefit systems and data management.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality.
