About The Role
The Below Grade Pole Inspections Technician is responsible for performing below grade inspections and maintenance activities on utility poles. This role involves digging around poles, assessing for decay, determining treatment needs, and boring. The technician will work closely with the Below Grade Field Survey Supervisor to ensure all inspections meet high standards of quality and safety. This position requires a mix of fieldwork and collaboration with team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform below grade inspections of utility poles by digging around them to assess for decay and other issues.
- Conduct sounding tests to identify the integrity of poles.
- Determine the treatment needs of utility poles based on inspection results.
- Conduct boring tests to evaluate the internal condition of utility poles.
- Apply chemical treatments to utility poles as necessary to extend their service life.
- Ensure that all treatment procedures are carried out safely and effectively.
- Accurately document the condition of utility poles and the results of inspections.
- Use electronic devices and software to record data and generate reports.
- Provide detailed and accurate reports to the Field Survey Supervisor and other stakeholders.
- Operate and maintain digging and boring equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Conduct pre-job safety briefings and site checks.
- Work collaboratively with other technicians and team members to complete projects efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with the Field Survey Supervisor and other team members regarding project progress and any issues encountered.
- Assist with inventory control of inspection and treatment supplies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Field Survey Supervisor to support project goals.
Key Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in utility pole inspection, maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to operate digging and boring equipment safely and effectively.
- Basic understanding of utility pole structures and common issues affecting them.
- Proficiency with electronic devices and software for data collection and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspection results.
- Good physical condition and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Commitment to safety and compliance with all safety protocols and regulations.
