Job summary

Marriott Providence Downtown is seeking a Bellperson / Shuttle Driver to deliver exceptional hospitality. You will assist guests with luggage, provide directions and shuttle services, and promote hotel amenities.

Position Summary

The Bellperson / Shuttle Driver is responsible for creating an exceptional first and last impression for every guest by providing warm, professional, and personalized service throughout the guest experience. This position assists guests with luggage, transportation, directions, and hotel information while safely operating the hotel shuttle.

In addition to providing outstanding guest service, this position is responsible for ensuring the hotel shuttle remains clean, safe, and operational by conducting daily inspections, reporting maintenance concerns, maintaining vehicle records, and communicating with the Engineering Department and hotel leadership regarding the condition of the vehicle. The Bellperson / Shuttle Driver serves as a hotel ambassador by anticipating guest needs, promoting hotel amenities, and delivering Meyer Jabara Hotels' standards of hospitality with every interaction.

Essential Functions

Guest Service
  • Welcome every guest with a warm greeting, eye contact, and genuine hospitality upon arrival and departure.
  • Open vehicle, lobby, and guest room doors when appropriate.
  • Assist guests with luggage promptly during arrival, departure, and throughout their stay.
  • Escort guests to guest rooms while providing information regarding hotel amenities, dining outlets, meeting spaces, recreational facilities, and hotel services.
  • Address guests by name whenever possible to personalize the guest experience.
  • Deliver guest luggage promptly following hotel service standards.
  • Respond immediately to guest requests for luggage assistance.
  • Provide recommendations for local restaurants, shopping, attractions, transportation, and entertainment.
  • Promote all hotel amenities including the restaurant, lounge, banquet facilities, fitness center, pool, and Marriott Bonvoy benefits.
  • Respond to guest concerns promptly and elevate unresolved issues to management.
  • Deliver memorable guest experiences by anticipating guest needs and exceeding expectations.
Shuttle Operations
  • Safely operate the hotel shuttle in accordance with all company policies, state regulations, and traffic laws.
  • Transport guests safely and courteously to approved destinations.
  • Assist guests with loading and unloading luggage safely.
  • Conduct and document daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the shuttle vehicle.
  • Monitor the overall condition, cleanliness, and operational readiness of the shuttle.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle inspection logs, mileage records, fuel levels, and shuttle activity reports.
  • Promptly report any mechanical issues, warning lights, damage, safety concerns, or maintenance needs to the Engineering Department and Front Office leadership.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and management to ensure preventative maintenance is completed on schedule.
  • Immediately notify management and remove the shuttle from service if any condition may compromise guest or associate safety.
  • Ensure the shuttle is clean, fueled, stocked, and ready for operation at the beginning of every shift.
Front Office Support
  • Answer the bell stand phone promptly and professionally.
  • Coordinate guest transportation including taxis, rideshare services, airport transportation, and limousine services.
  • Receive, log, store, and distribute guest and associate packages accurately.
  • Process guest and associate laundry requests following hotel procedures.
  • Maintain an organized luggage storage area and bell closet.
  • Ensure bell carts remain clean, organized, and in good operating condition.
  • Assist Front Desk operations during busy periods.
  • Support VIP arrivals, group arrivals, banquet functions, and special events as requested.
Operational Excellence
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest and hotel information.
  • Demonstrate initiative by anticipating operational and guest service needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Wear the required uniform and name tag while maintaining professional grooming standards.
  • Follow all Meyer Jabara Hotels policies, Marriott brand standards, and hotel safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous hotel, hospitality, customer service, transportation, or valet experience preferred.
  • Valid Rhode Island Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must qualify to operate company vehicles under hotel insurance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.

  • Occasionally lift items weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs, and entering/exiting vehicles.
  • Ability to safely operate the hotel shuttle for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
Work Environment

This position works throughout the hotel including the Front Desk, lobby, porte cochère, guest floors, parking areas, shuttle vehicle, loading dock, and other public spaces. The role requires frequent interaction with guests, associates, vendors, and visitors while maintaining a professional and welcoming presence.
