Job summary

Republic Services is looking for a Behind the Wheel Instructor (BTWI) in Altamont, NY to prepare new drivers for on-road safety and customer service excellence. You will shadow, coach, and certify drivers to operate a heavy-vehicle fleet in a variety of conditions.

As a BTWI, you’ll deliver foundational safety training, provide feedback to management, complete progress paperwork and model the Republic Way. The role emphasizes safety, reliability, and mentoring new hires to deliver customer zeal

Qualifications

• Two years of experience with Republic Services.
• No crashes or injuries for at least the past two years.
• No disciplinary actions of any kind for the preceding 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Acclimates new drivers to the physical and environmental demands of the job during Job Shadowing.
• Provides foundational industry knowledge: safety, Republic principles, and customer service.
• Instructs on on-property driving skills, stretching/injury prevention, and vehicle inspection.
• Teaches learning criteria skills on route and models safe driving practices.
• Provides daily feedback to management and completes progress documentation.
• Performs driver duties when not training a new driver.

## Behind the Wheel InstructorApplylocations: Altamont, NY, USAtime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Yesterdayjob requisition id: R-180239**POSITION SUMMARY:** The primary role of the Behind the Wheel Instructor (BTWI) is to make sure new drivers are ready for the road and can safely and effectively apply their new driving skills. With safety being the Company’s number one priority, the BTWI will provide critical feedback to management, who will determine whether drivers are ready to perform their jobs or need additional training. The BTWI must have the ability to develop rapport and be patient with new drivers. The BTWI will serve as a role model and mentor to new drivers. The BTWI’s primary goal is to develop new drivers to be safe, efficient and deliver customer zeal.**PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:*** Acclimates new drivers to the physical and environmental demands of the job during Job Shadowing. + Provide the new employee with foundational industry knowledge to include but not limited to: - Republic’s core principles and priorities - Importance of safety on the job - Significance of providing excellent customer service* Skills Course Activities + After the new driver completes the virtual safety training, the BTWI is required to instruct and coach drivers through the following: - On property driving skills - Stretching and Injury Prevention Techniques - Vehicle Inspection* When BTWI is comfortable with the new employees’ abilities to execute the skill activities, the training will be continued on-route: + Teaches the new employee all applicable learning criteria skills based on their line of business. + Models the Republic Way of operating a solid waste collection vehicle. + Communicates effectively with new employee providing positive feedback and addressing areas of needed improvement. + Provides daily feedback to management on the performance of the new employee. + Completes needed paperwork to document the new employee’s progress. + Performs a driver’s primary responsibilities, based on CDL Class and line of business, when not training a new driver.* Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent.**QUALIFICATIONS:*** Highly proficient in the equipment style with which they are certified, could be more than one style of equipment.* Recommended by their supervisor and operations manager.* Willingness to participate in the process for their Division including both written and verbal evaluations of new hire drivers.**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*** Two years of experience with Republic Services.* No crashes or injuries for at least the past two years.* No disciplinary actions of any kind for the preceding 12 months.**The statements used herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed by an employee in this position, and are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required by an incumbent so classified.
