Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a paraprofessional driver education assistant to support behind-the-wheel instruction, covering residential and city driving, intersections, parking, and interstate practice. Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and completion of 96 hours of driver education classroom instruction and Behind the Wheel training.
• Must have a three-year driving record with no corrective action from DMV prior to approval as a teaching paraprofessional.
• Requires four years of driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Confer with the Teacher (Behind the Wheel) regarding in-car problems and administering final driving tests.
• Road test students and issue a 180 day temporary license.
• Update and prepare paperwork for student registration.
• Collect registration fees from students at the start of each session.
• Review new laws and requirements for licensing students.
• Design routes that practice daily skills and track progress.
• Provide progress reports and set home goals with parents.
• Ensure student has a valid Virginia learner's permit when operating the vehicle.
