Job summary

Winchester Public Schools is seeking a Behavioral Technician for the 2026-2027 school year in Winchester, VA. The paraprofessional supports student-specific behavior management and data collection under supervision of the BCBA and school staff.

Responsibilities include implementing behavior plans, data gathering, reinforcing learning, and supervising students during unstructured times. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and relevant experience; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some experience in working with children - required.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate's Degree; or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment.
  • Behavioral training, not limited to certification as a Registered Behavior Technician, is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.

  • Provide daily updates on assigned students' progress toward mastery of behavioral goals.
  • Provide redirection to assigned students when behavior effects the student's learning or learning of others.
  • Supervise assigned students during unstructured time such as lunch and recess.
  • Coordinate with school and division teams to support comprehensive behavioral programming.
  • Perform related work as required.

Summary:

The Behavioral Technician is a paraprofessional who practices under ongoing supervision of the special education department. The Behavioral Technician is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of student-specific behavior management/support services.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some experience in working with children - required.
  • Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate's Degree; or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment. Behavioral training, not limited to certification as a Registered Behavior Technician, is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • This position requires periods of standing; some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift 25 lbs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Salary:

Range for 2026-2027 is $19.57 to $30.14 per hour.

Workday: Full time/10 month (183 days) position, 7 hours per day
