Job summary

Broward County Public Schools is seeking a Behavioral Technician to support students with behavior interventions across individual, small group, or classroom settings. You will aid in data collection, develop and implement intervention plans, and train staff in behavioral strategies.

Position requires working with behaviorally complex children, data-driven decision making, and adherence to district policies. 189-day calendar and hourly compensation are noted.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years of experience working with behaviorally complex children.
• GED or high school diploma required; associate degree or 60 credits acceptable.
• Must have computer skills as required for the position.

Job description

Assist in developing appropriate responses from designated students requiring behavior intervention by implementing specific plans on an individual, small group, or classroom basis, as appropriate, to ensure the safety and dignity of students and staff.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Behavioral Technician shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.

• Collect data within the school environment.
• Assist in data-gathering for Functional Behavior Assessments.
• Assist in the development and implementation of behavioral programs, including behavioral support plans and behavioral intervention plans.
• Assist staff in techniques needed to implement behavioral systems.
• Assist in shaping and teaching appropriate behavior to student.
• Become available as needed by school staff.
• Perform specific assignments by assisting in the following areas:
  • Material Preparation
    • Preparing classroom charts, graphs.
    • Constructing behavior management aids/tools.
  • Clerical Support
    • Collecting and recording data.
• Monitor data and share recommendations for intervention with appropriate staff.
• Monitor/supervise a student or small group of assigned students in need of specific behavioral intervention.
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Education Development (GED) testing program.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience working with behaviorally complex children.

OR

• An earned associate degree or 60-degree credits from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with behaviorally complex children.
• Must have the physical stamina and ability to work with behaviorally complex students and implement behavior management strategies as needed.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

TRAINING

• Attend training in Positive Behavioral Supports and De-escalation strategies within six (6) months of employment.
• Attend training in Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans within six (6) months of employment.
• Behavior Technicians who require Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training, based on a student’s IEP, will be trained in collaboration with the Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Department.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bilingual skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 10 pounds of force
as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of
employment shall be those established by the School Board
