Department Summary

The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, exercise physiology and urban design.
We have eight academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Kristin Farmer Autism Center, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, the UNT Work Inclusion and Supported Employment (UNTWISE) program, UNT ELEVAR, and several professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.
The UNT Kristin Farmer Autism Center (KFAC) provides clinical services to support learning, development, community participation, and quality of life of individuals on the autism spectrum. KFAC offers programming for early childhood as well as middle childhood/adolescence. In addition, KFAC offers specialized programming for children with challenging behaviors that interfere with access to age‑appropriate activities.

Position Overview

This position provides direct services to clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the UNT Kristin Farmer Autism Center (KFAC) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The Behavior Technician is responsible for collecting data, conducting assessments, implementing skill acquisition and behavior reduction procedures, and documenting and reporting outcomes. This position is also responsible for assisting in the ongoing supervision of part‑time Behavior Technicians and working with Senior Behavior Technicians and Behavior Analysts to provide training to new KFAC employees.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED equivalent and one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities, a basic understanding of behavior analytic principles and procedures, and knowledge of evidence‑based practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic understanding of autism spectrum disorders and evidence‑based practices.
• Ability to work with clients with autism spectrum disorders.
• Ability to be patient, flexible, versatile and cope with stressful situations.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals with ASD.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence‑based practices.
  • Ability to serve as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary team in making decisions regarding client programming.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes.
  • Develop knowledge and awareness of KFAC policies and procedures, and demonstrate KFAC Core Values.
Required License/Registration/Certifications

Registered Behavior Technician credential or the ability to obtain within 6 months, not to exceed one year; required to maintain recertification.

Job Duties
  • Models core organization beliefs, values, and expectations.
  • Directly implements individualized skill acquisition and behavior reduction plans developed by the Behavior Analyst with accuracy and fidelity.
  • Prepares and maintains client materials as directed by supervisor.
  • Accurately collects, records, and graphs client data, and reports concerns regarding client progress to supervisor.
  • Assists clients with physical, communicative, emotional, and instructional needs, including lifting, positioning, feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene.
  • Maintains neat, clean, and orderly clinical spaces including classrooms and treatment rooms.
  • In collaboration with the Behavior Analyst, instructs and supervises part‑time Behavior Technicians in the effective delivery of behavioral interventions through modeling and feedback on instructional effectiveness and performance.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and special events as required.
  • Conduct fidelity checks on part‑time Behavior Technicians and monitors performance progress.
  • Follows UNT and departmental policies and procedures, legal requirements, verbal/written directives, and Professional Codes of Ethics and Standards.
