Job summary

Henry Ford Health seeks a Behavioral Psychotherapist to join its interdisciplinary mental health team in Detroit. You will deliver evidence-based therapy, conduct assessments, and provide crisis intervention within a hybrid in-person/virtual schedule.

You will collaborate with clinicians, maintain thorough documentation, and participate in supervision and team meetings to support continuous professional growth and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Master's (or Doctoral) degree in clinical or counseling psychology with one year supervised post masters experience; OR Master's degree in Social Work with two years post Master's experience in mental health/chemical dependency setting.
  • Licensure as a Psychologist (full or limited) or Licensed Master’s in Social Work.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for clients with mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Deliver psychotherapeutic interventions including individual, couples, group, and family-centered therapies.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients in acute distress and connect them with resources.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical care using evidence-based practices and culturally responsive care.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision to enhance skills.

Job Description

As a Behavioral Psychotherapist, you will play a vital role in our interdisciplinary mental health team, delivering evidence-based, compassionate care to individuals and families navigating mental illness and substance use disorders. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in clients' lives through a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions and crisis support services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough diagnostic assessments and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for clients presenting with mental health and substance use disorders, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care
  • Deliver a diverse range of psychotherapeutic interventions tailored to client needs, including individual psychotherapy sessions, conjoint (couples) therapy, group therapy programs, and family-centered interventions designed to promote healing and strengthen relationships
  • Provide immediate and compassionate crisis intervention services to clients in acute distress, utilizing clinical expertise to de-escalate situations, ensure safety, and connect individuals with appropriate resources and support systems
  • Maintain the highest standards of clinical care by consistently implementing evidence-based practices that are safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable, while remaining responsive to the diverse needs and cultural backgrounds of the populations served
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and timely clinical documentation that reflects the quality and progress of therapeutic work, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards
  • Participate actively in treatment team meetings, case consultations, and clinical supervision to enhance clinical skills, share insights, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and professional development

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Master's (or Doctoral) degree in clinical or counseling psychology with one year supervised post masters experience; OR Master's degree in Social Work with two years post Master's experience in mental health/chemical dependency setting.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
  • Licensed Psychologist; OR Limited Licensed Psychologist; OR Licensed Master's in Social Work.
Additional Information
Work Schedule & Clinical Expectations
Clinical Hours
  • The clinic is open 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday.
  • Patient appointments may be scheduled after 5:00 p.m., up to 7:00 p.m.
  • Providers are expected to offer 4 non-traditional clinical hours per week, defined as patient availability after 5:00 p.m.
Patient Availability
  • Offer a minimum of 35 patient appointment slots per week.
In-Person & Hybrid Work
  • Provide at least one in-person clinical day per week , with a minimum of 6 hours of in-person patient care on that day.
  • Remaining clinical days may follow a hybrid schedule , with flexibility to provide care either in person or virtually.
Meetings
  • Attend required department meetings virtually.
Administrative Time
  • 4 hours of administrative time per week are provided for documentation, care coordination, and other administrative responsibilities.
