Birch Family Services is a leading provider of education, employment, and community support services for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities in New York City. The organization supports over 2,000 people annually across 31 locations in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, offering programs from preschool to employment and housing.

As a Behavioral Intervention Specialist (BIS), you will be responsible for behavioral assessments, intervention planning, and delivering behavioral support services within residential and day programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. You will work under the supervision of the Residential Manager, Operations Coordinator, and Psychology Coordinator, with a flexible schedule that includes onsite and remote responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct behavioral assessments and develop intervention plans for residents and day program participants.
  • Ensure individuals receive appropriate mental health care and serve as a resource for the team regarding mental health needs.
  • Perform assessments using formal and informal methods.
  • Develop evidence-based behavior support plans, making timely revisions as needed.
  • Obtain proper approvals before implementing interventions, including informed consent and human rights considerations.
  • Recommend referrals for psychological evaluations and consultations.
  • Complete all required documentation and ensure psychiatric reports are comprehensive.
  • Maintain psychological records according to OPWDD and Birch policies.
  • Participate in regular meetings with leadership and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead clinical discussions, provide training, and contribute to clinical agendas.
  • Develop data collection systems to monitor progress.
  • Coordinate treatment between residential and day programs, including site visits.
  • Provide clinical supervision and training to residential staff.
  • Engage with families and community members about mental health issues.
  • Ensure clinical programming is implemented consistently and in accordance with policies.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field; BCBA certification or equivalent is required.
  • Training in assessment techniques is required.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses is preferred.
  • Strong clinical leadership and feedback skills are required.
  • Experience with clinical training and electronic documentation is necessary.
  • Ability to travel and work onsite at assigned programs, including afternoons/evenings from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, is required.
