Job summary

SCO Family of Services in Sea Cliff, NY, seeks a Behavior Specialist to develop and monitor behavior modification programs for children in care, applying ABA principles within ACS policy and coordinating with on-site school staff.

The role trains childcare workers in behavioral intervention, conducts case reviews, and completes progress reports while collaborating with psychiatric providers to support optimal care plans. A Master’s in Psychology and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of one year experience working with the intellectually disabled population.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with team members.
• Maintain high quality of work and productivity.
• Flexible working hours and reliable attendance.
• Supervised hours by an LBA will be provided for licensure goals.
• Full training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and CPR will be provided.
• Two days of new hire orientation to acclimate to SCO Family of Services.

Responsibilities

• Participate in planning meetings and case reviews to discuss goals and strategies.

• Provide therapeutic consultation to children in care.
• Collaborate with educational psychology team to coordinate behavior programs across settings.
• Keep psychiatric providers updated to support optimal care plans.
• Support childcare workers in emergencies as needed.
• Attend trainings to stay current on autism spectrum disorders and related policies.
• Maintain case notes and records per program requirements.
• Collaborate with agency-wide behavioral health services.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Behavioral Health Services.

• Develop, monitor, and update behavior modification programs utilizing principles of ABA and aspects of behavior management within the confines of ACS policy
• Provide ongoing training to support childcare workers with implementing behavioral intervention strategies and in carrying out person-centered planning
• Mentor and encourage childcare workers using the framework of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, a behavior management training provided to staff at all levels
• Participate in all program planning meetings and case reviews to discuss treatment plan goals, behavioral strategies and objectives, review assessments and behavioral observations
• Complete and present reports to team members reflecting behavioral progress
• Provide therapeutic consultation to children in care
• Collaborate with educational psychology team at the on-campus school to coordinate optimal behavior programming across settings
• Keep psychiatric providers updated with behavioral progress to ensure effective psychopharmacological therapy and in turn an optimal care plan
• Provide support to childcare workers in emergency circumstances and as needed
• Attend trainings and seminars to continuously enhance knowledge of autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities, as well as SCO, ACS and OCFS policy and procedure
• Maintain case notes and records in accordance with program requirements
• Ongoing collaboration with agency-wide behavioral health services
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Behavioral Health Services

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university

• Must possess well developed communication skills, both written and verbal
• Must be proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with team members
• Maintain high levels of quality of work and productivity
• Ideal candidate will be flexible with working hours and demonstrate reliability in relation to attendance and punctuality
• Supervised hours by an LBA will be provided at no charge for candidates working toward their RBT, BCaBA, BCBA or licensure
• A full week of training will be provided to certify new employees in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (the behavior management curriculum utilized) and CPR
• Two days of new hire orientation is provided to acclimate candidates to SCO Family of Services
• Job Type: Full-time
