General Summary
Assists with initial triage and assessment, provides clinical oversight, facilitates the admissions process, and serves as a resource about internal and external services. Assists with security and patient behavioral management and provides crisis intervention services.
- Triages requests for service, providing prompt assistance based on urgency.
- Documents all requests using computerized inquiry functions.
- Maintains knowledge of insurance/managed care processes related to pre-certifications and authorizations and completes these as required.
- Uses clinical assessment and judgment to make safety observation recommendations in the ED.
- Determines appropriate level of care based on client history, psychosocial background, clinical presentation, and funding situation.
- Instructs and assists clients and families with paperwork, witnessing signatures as needed.
- Collaborates with program staff to transition clients and participates in psychiatrist conference calls, providing clinical summaries and noting special needs.
- Interacts with clients and families with confidentiality, patient rights awareness, and sensitivity to distress levels.
- Assists licensed practitioners with initial patient assessments during triage.
- Prepares documentation for treatment authorization by third-party payers.
- Refers patients to other care levels or services when appropriate, completing necessary procedures.
- Coordinates with other providers or agencies involved in patient care, including primary care, schools, legal, and social services.
- Provides individual, family, and group therapy in the ED, applying clinical decision-making skills.
- Adheres to processes related to behavioral health patient care coordination.
- Maintains awareness of community resources and shares relevant information with clients.
- Serves as an initial contact for emergencies, administrative issues, and public relations, directing to appropriate staff.
- Familiar with WellSpan Philhaven's admission criteria and the Mental Health Procedures Act, advising staff accordingly.
- Knowledgeable about behavioral management techniques and assists during behavioral emergencies (BERT) in the ED.

Minimum Education
Work Experience
- Minimum of 2 years in psychology, social work, or related field required
Driver's License Statement
Must hold a valid driver's license in current residence; driving record must meet WellSpan Risk Management standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and listening, for managing admissions and counseling.
- Ability to counsel on sensitive issues and act in a public relations capacity.
- Analytical skills to resolve crisis and service inquiries.
- Visual acuity for reviewing documents and observing patient behavior.
- Knowledge of care for all age groups, considering their specific needs and behaviors.
