Behavioral Health Therapist- Clinic-Based

Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). We are committed to caring for our patients with purpose and integrity. We are looking for a compassionate and experienced therapist who is committed to clinical excellence to provide high quality behavioral health and integrated care services to patients.

Services will be provided at our primary health clinic-

257 Biltmore Avenue


RESPONSIBILITIES-Includes but not limited to the following:

  • Obtain medical, psychological, social, and family histories by interviewing individuals, couples, and/or families.
  • Select, administer, score, and interpret standardized screening/assessment tools to help identify and diagnose patient’s psychological, emotional, or behavioral problems.
  • Identify symptoms, make diagnoses, and develop treatment plans.
  • Identify psychological, emotional, social and/or behavioral problems and diagnose disorders, using information from interviews, structured assessments, records, and reference materials.
  • Discuss the treatment of identified problems or disorders with patients and, as appropriate, their caregivers.
  • Develop and implement individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy.
  • Interact with patients to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and planning action to achieve effective personal, social, and functional adjustment.
  • Counsel individuals, groups, or families to help them understand problems, deal with crisis situations, define goals, and develop realistic action plans.
  • Utilize therapeutic interventions to assist patients in achieving their goals
  • Consult with PCPs and other members of the health care team regarding patient care/treatment
  • Document all relevant information and data, including treatment plans, assessments, recommendations, and progress notes.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of therapy and treatment, the accuracy of diagnoses, and make modifications, as necessary.
  • As appropriate, refer patients and their caregivers to other needed services (i.e., psychiatry, care management services).
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant research and treatment modalities.
  • Participate in clinical quality management activities.
  • Collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team as needed for continuity of care.
  • Psychoeducation to students, families, and school staff.
  • Coordination and case discussion with members of the child’s school-based team (teachers, counselor, principal) as clinically appropriate.
  • Occasionally, other appropriate duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS-
  • Completion of an accredited master’s level educational program in clinical social work or counseling with training and/or experience in working with children and families.
  • Completion of the clinical/practical internships required by the accredited master’s level educational program.
  • Current and unrestricted license to practice in North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
SKILLS-
  • Able to communicate effectively. Interacts in a friendly, professional manner with a wide range of community health staff, school staff, families, physicians, and the public.
  • Plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure is essential.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs to produce correspondence, documents, presentations, records, and spreadsheets.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Additional skills preferred: Expert knowledge of medical office operations. Familiarity with role of FQHCs in the community
