Job summary

StoneSprings Hospital Center in Virginia is seeking a PRN Behavioral Health Technician to support patient care under RN supervision. You will help with activities of daily living, document observations, and participate in safety and de-escalation measures in a busy behavioral health unit.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, BLS within 90 days, and CPI within 30 days of employment. This PRN position offers flexible hours and exposure to a comprehensive hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) within 90 days of employment Required.
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) within 30 days of employment Required.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the implementation of multidisciplinary/nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
  • Obtains and records initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, intake and output, and calorie counts.
  • Documents observations, interactions, patient responses to performed activities, and any physical or behavioral changes at time of occurrence.
  • Reports observations of individual patients to the RN/Team Leader.
  • Escorts patients to and from scheduled activities in a safe and professional manner.
  • Performs 15-minute rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to behavioral health nursing functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the registered nurse (RN), the BHT I assist the nursing staff in providing patient care in accordance with the BHT’s skills/training and the needs of the Department and consistently assists the patient care team with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The BHT I comply with all hospital policies/procedures and observes the State Board of Nursing rules for unlicensed personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Performs clerical work as needed, including assembling and maintain charts, filing, answering and transferring phones, and relaying messages.
  • Monitors unit and individual patient rooms to assess for potential ligature/safety risks, contraband and any environmental concerns.
  • Supports restraint free environment utilizing preventative measures and de-escalation skills/techniques.
  • Plans, leads or co-leads groups and activities with patients and documents observations in the medical records.
  • Participates in data collection, monitors quality of care and seeks opportunity to make improvements.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience in Behavioral Health Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience Licenses, Certifications, & Training preferred
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) within 90 days of employment Required
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) within 30 days of employment Required
