Job summary

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to support patients during their treatment journey in a 24/7 behavioral health unit.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help maintain safety, assist with daily activities, and engage patients in therapeutic activities while adhering to HIPAA and professional boundaries. This PRN position offers varied shifts and opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current BLS Certification required within established timeframe.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred or obtained during orientation.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and support under the direction of licensed nursing staff.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients receiving behavioral health services.
• Conduct routine patient observations and document findings accurately and timely.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living as needed.
• Facilitate patient engagement in therapeutic and recreational activities.
• Implement de-escalation techniques and respond appropriately to behavioral crises.
• Support treatment goals by encouraging positive coping skills and participation in care plans.
• Observe and report changes in patient behavior, mood, and physical condition.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, physicians, and other team members.
• Participate in ongoing education and safety training.

How You'll Contribute

What We're Looking For

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Licensure & Certifications

• Current BLS Certification required within established timeframe.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred or obtained during orientation.

Required Skills

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in crisis situations.
• Strong observation and documentation abilities.

Experience

• Previous behavioral health, psychiatric, healthcare, social services, or direct patient care experience preferred.
• Experience working with mental health and substance abuse populations is a plus.
