Job Summary

Provides direct/indirect care to individual or groups of psychiatric patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include patient data collection, implementing age-appropriate interventions, using therapeutic communication, and assisting with therapeutic and recreational activities as needed.

Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent (preferred)
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or related experience (preferred)
  • Two years' experience in acute or long-term mental healthcare (preferred)
Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) in the state of practice (preferred)
Facility Specific Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or LPT (required)
Department Specific Licenses/Certifications
  • Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) or Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) (required)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
Essential Functions
  • Employ de-escalation and less restrictive interventions; plan and evaluate patient care, monitor symptoms, and document outcomes.
  • Manage admissions, discharges, intake interviews, and patient orientation. Screen patient conditions and address physical, emotional, social, and cultural needs.
  • Observe, document, and report patient responses, behaviors, and vital signs. Communicate changes to the RN and care team.
  • Interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive care and safety. Provide patient education and reinforce care plans.
  • Conduct routine patient rounding, monitor safety, obtain medication consents, administer medications, and coordinate with pharmacy and nursing staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
