Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician I to support inpatient pediatric behavioral health care for ages 12–18. This role operates on a 2nd shift (12pm–7pm), part-time schedule (20 hours/week) and is onsite in Canton, Ohio, under the direction of a Mental Health Therapist.

You will help maintain a safe milieu, assist in implementing individualized plans, and engage patients alongside therapists.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field, or nursing; associate degree preferred.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
• 0–2 years of experience in healthcare or behavioral health settings.
• Onsite work with part-time schedule.

Responsibilities

• Support milieu and safety; assist in implementing ISP care plan.
• Provide supportive care and engagement with Mental Health Therapists.
• Address physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of patients aged 12–18.
• Other duties as required.

Summary:

The Behavioral Health Technician I, under the direction and delegation of a Mental Health Therapist , supports and assists in the care and treatment of children and adolescents, ages 12-18, admitted to the inpatient behavioral health unit.

Responsibilities:

1. Support the milieu of the environment, maintain safety, and support the implementation of ISP individualized plan of care.
2. Provides supportive care and engagement according to Hospital Policy and procedure as delegated and as a team with our Mental Health Therapists.
3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.

Technical Expertise

1. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
2. Proficiency in computerized documentation is preferred.
3. Experience in healthcare is preferred.

Education and Experience

1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree for counseling, psychology, social work or related degree, or nursing preferred. Associate degree is preferred.
2. Certification: BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.
