Behavioral Health Technician - Lou Location-Floating

Where: Lou Masterman Center (LMC) Cape Girardeau, MO
Base Pay: $17.59/hour
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours/week - Floating - in the Floating Behavioral Health Technician position, your shift time would vary, dependent upon program need. As a floater, you would need to have the flexibility to work across all 3 shift times (Morning/Day, Evening, and Overnight). While typically the shift times are known in advance, situations arise where the staff would need to "float" at a moments notice to another shift time.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED/HSE required.
  • Preference will be given to those with at least two years' experience in Healthcare or Mental Health field or with an undergraduate degree.
  • Must hold or obtain by start date, MO Class E Driver's License (Class D for IL Residents), and proof of continuous auto insurance. Must also meet CCC's Moter Vehicle Record standards policy and have reliable transportation.

The Lou Masterman Center (LMC) Program

LMC is a seven bed Intensive Residential Treatment Service (IRTS) that provides a high level of direct service and supports for individuals living with chronic mental health diagnoses (i.e., anxiety, bi-polar, depression, personality disorders, etc.) that often involve severe behavioral and emotional issues resulting in guardianship. LMC also has three short term diversion beds that serve as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization and/or as a resource that hospitals may use to shorten inpatient stays.

Your Job as a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)

As a BHT you are responsible for the oversight of the clients' safety and mental well-being as well as the physical plant facilities. This includes assisting clients with skill building, participating in groups and social activities, and intervening in crisis situations when needed. To be successful in this role, you would need to have a high level of communication skills, model behavior to clients, and promote client-centered treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide care to clients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and a therapeutic environment based on a trauma informed approach.
  2. Educate clients regarding activities of daily living including household management (i.e., attending to bedroom, laundry, etc.) and self-care management (i.e., hygiene, grooming, medication, etc.) tasks and responsibilities.
  3. Teach functional living skills such as anger management techniques, impulse control, social/communication skills, relaxation skills, emotional coping skills, etc. based on the client's individual treatment plan.
  4. Work closely with our treatment team to provide coordinated care.
  5. Complete and chart client observations in accordance with agency policy and procedure.
  6. Conducting and ensure protective oversight of clients with monitoring the condition of clients and including ongoing checks with personal belongings, room checks, and grounds checks based on agency policy and procedure with following the procedures for medical emergencies or elopement.
  7. Transport clients to and from appointments as needed and appropriate.
  8. Intervene in behavioral health crisis situations when needed.
  9. Distribute medications and documents based on agency policy and procedure. Immediately report medication errors based on agency protocol.
  10. Document according to clinical policies and procedures, DMH, CARF, and any other federal or state program per agency standards.
