Brief Description

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to join our team. The BHT works under the supervision of the Lead Behavioral Health Technician and/or the BHT Supervisor. The role involves providing direct care and support to clients in a dual diagnosis residential treatment program, maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment, and ensuring adherence to program rules. The BHT supports clients with mental health, substance use, and behavioral disorders, monitoring vitals, and assisting with transportation and food handling.

What You Will Do
  1. Client Supervision and Support:
    • Supervise clients ensuring safety, security, and compliance.
    • Assist with daily activities including meals, hygiene, and participation.
    • Observe and document behaviors, report concerns to staff.
    • Conduct room checks, headcounts, and searches.
    • Coordinate with healthcare professionals for comprehensive care.
    • Address client concerns professionally and escalate as needed.
    • Serve as a role model.
  2. Treatment Support:
    • Facilitate group discussions and activities.
    • Escort clients to appointments and activities.
    • Enforce treatment plans.
    • Provide crisis intervention using approved techniques.
    • Follow daily schedule.
  3. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Keep accurate records of progress and incidents.
    • Complete forms and reports maintaining confidentiality.
  4. Vital and Behavioral Checks:
    • Monitor and record vitals as scheduled.
    • Report abnormal signs immediately.
    • Report behavioral changes.
  5. Program Support:
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization.
    • Assist during adverse weather.
    • Serve food and transport clients as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Additional education in behavioral health.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent observation and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Ability to de-escalate and handle emergencies.
  • Understanding of infection control and use of medical equipment.
  • Basic computer skills and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, self-directed, and collaborative.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
