Job Location: Arizona Rehab Campus - Tucson - Tucson, AZ 85715
The primary responsibility of the Behavioral Health Technician aids with activities of daily living and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment, under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor of BHT’s.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Care & Supervision
- Provides consistent supervision and ensures patient safety.
- Escorts clients to appointments and activities on campus as needed.
- Assists with educating clients regarding daily personal care.
Observation & Documentation
- Accurately observes and documents client behavior, condition changes, and vital signs.
- Reports all significant findings, concerns, and incidents promptly to the BHT Supervisor, Lead BHT or Charge Nurse.
- Completes required rounds and documentation timely and accurately.
Crisis & Behavior Management
- Recognizes and reports behavioral or mood changes, including suicidal ideations, homicidal ideations, self-harm or aggression.
- Uses de‑escalation and "Handle with Care" techniques appropriately.
- Follows assigned observation levels and implements safety precautions.
Environmental & Safety Maintenance
- Performs housekeeping duties and maintains cleanliness in patient living areas.
- Secures personal belongings and valuables according to the procedure.
- Utilizes proper transfer techniques and fall prevention measures.
Communication & Support
- Communicates clearly and professionally with clinical, nursing, and administrative teams to ensure seamless coordination of client care.
- Uses Microsoft Teams for real-time messaging, updates, and coordination with interdisciplinary team members (e.g., therapists, nurses, supervisors).
- Monitors and responds to Outlook email communications in a timely and professional manner, adhering to internal expectations for documentation and follow-up.
- Answers and places phone calls using appropriate codes and protocols ensuring immediate notification to relevant personnel.
- Documents and relays critical client information including behavior changes, attendance issues, and safety concerns to the appropriate staff and supervisors.
- Maintains confidentiality and professional boundaries in all verbal, written, and electronic communications.
- Supports a team‑oriented environment by participating in staff meetings, training, and interdisciplinary planning.
- Upholds a client‑centered approach in all interactions, using language that is supportive, empathetic, compassionate, inclusive, and recovery‑focused.
- Maintains confidentiality and ethical standards in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Provides one‑on‑one support and assists with behavior interventions and redirection.
- Orients new clients and supports structured daily routines.
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Adheres to infection control, universal precautions, and confidentiality standards.
- Follows discharge procedures and maintains Clients’ Rights.
- Prioritizes interventions in changing or emergency situations.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in related field preferred.
- CPR/FA Certification – to be obtained within first 30 days.
- Fingerprint Clearance Card – have current card or show proof of applying within 7 days from hire date.
- Handle with Care certification – to be obtained within first 30 days.
- Successful clearance of pre‑employment criminal/county/state background check.
- Successful clearance of pre‑employment drug and alcohol testing.
- Successful clearance of TB PPD testing upon hire and annual screening of TB symptoms.
- Attending clinical oversight with BHP once every 2 weeks worked for a minimum of 2 sessions per month.
