Job summary

The Haven Behavioral Hospital of Philadelphia is seeking a PRN Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to support nursing staff on a 42-bed acute psychiatric unit. Shifts include day and night coverage and focus on maintaining a therapeutic milieu under supervision.

The BHT will assist with vital signs, ADLs, documentation, meals, mobility, and safety checks, while ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to professional standards and Joint Commission requirements.
• Apply supportive behavior; use de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Inventory patient belongings and secure contraband; perform unit safety checks.
• Follow infection control policies and attend required in-services.
• Provide patient care under nursing supervision; record vitals, weights, ADL, intake/output; monitor nutrition and report findings; review dietary needs.
• Assist with laundry, meals, grooming, mobility and personal belongings.
• Tailor care to age, disability, and cultural needs.
• Document patient observations, departures, and notable events accurately and timely; report vital signs and nutrition data to RN.
• Relay task outcomes and follow-ups to nursing staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
