Behavioral Health Technician (BHU/Full Time/Nights)

Job Summary: This position supports the mission of the hospital through providing compassionate care to patients. The Behavioral Health Worker (BHW) assists licensed staff in delivering safe and therapeutic patient care, following policies and procedures. The role involves active participation in department operations and communication, and upholding standards such as AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you).

Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records will be considered in accordance with the Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.

Essential Functions
  1. Assist licensed staff in supervising clients.
  2. Support patient care in line with individual treatment plans.
  3. Observe and report on patients' progress.
  4. Assist with activities of daily living.
  5. Provide relief coverage for staff breaks and answer phones.
  6. Assist with meal services.
  7. Attend hospital training programs.
  8. Implement emergency measures when needed.
  9. Document patient care accurately.
  10. Use resources safely and cost-effectively.
  11. Complete tasks efficiently and in order.
  12. Remain flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  13. Dependably report to work as scheduled.
  14. Maintain positive communication and professional behavior with patients and staff.
  15. Provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan.
  16. Respect and respond to the needs of different age groups.
  17. Exhibit courteous, compassionate, and respectful behavior.
  18. Communicate clearly and professionally with all stakeholders.
  19. Use AIDET principles in interactions.
  20. Act with urgency when performing tasks.
  21. Maintain department organization and safety standards.
  22. Report equipment or environmental issues.
  23. Follow HIPAA regulations.
  24. Escalate safety concerns appropriately.
  25. Attend monthly training sessions.
  26. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, prioritize patient needs, and collaborate effectively.
