As a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT), you will be a vital part of the treatment team—supporting daily structure, safety, and therapeutic engagement in a high-acuity environment. You’ll work closely with nursing, clinical, and peer staff to monitor residents, facilitate groups, and ensure a safe, recovery-focused atmosphere that meets Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) and ASAM standards.

Position Overview

The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct supervision, support, and monitoring to residents within the 24-hour residential program. This role plays a key part in maintaining a therapeutic and safe environment, supporting medical and clinical interventions, and modeling recovery-oriented behaviors under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor or Director of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities
Client Support & Supervision:

Program Facilitation:
  • Assist in facilitating life skills, psychoeducational, or recovery-based groups as directed by clinical leadership.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and provide behavioral observations to inform individualized care planning.
  • Reinforce therapeutic and medical interventions as instructed by clinical and nursing staff.
  • Assist with admissions, orientations, and discharges, ensuring a smooth and supportive process for clients.
  • Maintain a professional and compassionate presence that supports client motivation and recovery engagement.
Safety & Crisis Response:
  • Conduct room checks, contraband searches, and environmental safety inspections as scheduled.
  • Identify and respond to crisis situations promptly using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques.
  • Support nursing staff during medical incidents, detox monitoring, or emergencies as directed.
  • Accurately document and report incidents, behavioral observations, and safety concerns to supervisory staff immediately.
  • Maintain compliance with DMH safety standards, HIPAA, and infection control protocols.
Documentation & Compliance:
  • Complete shift reports, observation notes, and incident documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Uphold all 9 CSR 30-3.140 and 9 CSR 30-3.100 requirements related to residential care and client monitoring.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all interactions and records.
  • Follow established facility protocols and report deviations or concerns immediately to leadership.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to DMH compliance, trauma-informed care, and ASAM level-of-care standards.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human services, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in a residential, detox, or behavioral health setting strongly preferred.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, empathy, and appropriate boundaries in all interactions.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and documentation skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency for Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation.
