Qualifications

Job description

Job Summary

Under close supervision, responsible for providing a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients. Provides direct patient care and may conduct therapeutic group sessions under the direction and supervision of the RN. Assists with the admission of new patients, orients new patients and families to the unit, and helps develop and carry out the plan of care for assigned patients.

Essential Functions
  1. Assists with admissions, discharges, transfers, and documentation. Obtains vital signs and collects laboratory specimens as directed. (25%)
  2. Performs transportation responsibilities, including transporting patients, laboratory specimens, blood products, medications, and other items within the hospital, including access to the pneumatic tube system. (25%)
  3. Differentiates normal from abnormal findings, reports abnormal values or conditions to the RN. (20%)
  4. Ensures confidentiality of patient information, provides care according to regulations and department policies, and is aware of legal aspects of care. (10%)
  5. Promotes positive relationships with staff, physicians, patients, and visitors, treating everyone with courtesy, dignity, empathy, and respect. (10%)
  6. Adheres to the mission, values, and attendance guidelines of Denver Health. (10%)
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Two years' experience in the field or related area preferred or equivalent required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (AHA) required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Sensitivity in dealing with psychiatric patients, with effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of concepts, practices within the field
  • Skill in assisting patients with daily activities, effective human relations, and communication
  • Ability to observe, document patient behavior, and rely on instructions and guidelines
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office
