Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician performs routine patient care duties including observation, monitoring, recording patient condition changes, obtaining vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, providing emotional support, and facilitating groups under the supervision of nursing staff. Responsibilities also include performing contraband searches, inventory of personal belongings, using crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques, and maintaining a safe, clean, therapeutic environment. Acts as a resource for medical staff, nursing staff, security, and other Behavioral Health Technicians. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Social Work preferred; Certified Nursing Assistants accepted. BLS from the American Heart Association required. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Experience: Two years of psychiatric experience preferred.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; customer service skills; ability to work with children, adolescents, and adults with mental illness; basic knowledge of age-specific considerations; unrestricted NCI Certification upon training completion; basic computer competency.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work variable shifts; bending, standing, walking; turning and lifting patients; visual and auditory acuity; manual dexterity; potential contact with blood or infectious materials.
  • Licenses and Certifications: CNA - NC Nursing Assistant Registry.
