Job summary

COMHAR's Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) in the Philadelphia area provides one-to-one mental health interventions to children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance, in home, school, and community settings. The role aims to prevent more restrictive services and promote age-appropriate Psychosocial growth with family engagement.

The Behavioral Health Technician works under psychologist/psychiatrist guidance, delivering short-term services with minimal disruption,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or higher is required.
  • Able to complete 64 hours of paid behavioral health technician training upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the child in developing age-appropriate self-management skills across settings.
  • Support teachers, parents, and other adults in supervising the child in classrooms or home/community settings.
  • Aide in providing therapeutic structure and setting clear limits for the child.
  • Implement behavioral intervention plans and alternative activities to redirect challenging behaviors.
  • Promote positive relationships with teachers, aides, families, siblings, and peers.
  • Ensure safety of the child and others.
  • Encourage positive behavior during school times such as lunch, recess, bathroom visits, and bus rides.
  • Support positive behavior within the family during routine activities as outlined in the treatment plan.

Behavioral Health Technician Position Summary

COMHAR's Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS) is located in the Philadelphia area. IBHS supports children, youth, and young adults with mental, emotional, and behavioral health needs. Services are provided in home, school, and community settings to help reduce and replace problem behaviors with positive, socially appropriate behaviors, with a focus on family engagement.

Behavioral Health Technician provides one-to-one mental health interventions to children or adolescents with serious emotional disturbance to prevent more restrictive services or out-of-home placement and promote age-appropriate psychosocial growth. These services, recommended by a psychologist/psychiatrist and approved by CBH, are short-term with minimal disruption in the home and educational setting. The technician works collaboratively with family, teachers, and school personnel to develop skills needed for integration into normal activities. Interventions include:

  • Positive behavioral reinforcement
  • Emotional support
  • Time-structuring activities
  • Crisis intervention techniques
  • Other strategies as prescribed in the child’s treatment plan
Responsibilities of the Behavioral Health Technician
  • Assist the child in developing age‑appropriate self‑management skills such as focusing attention, organization, and planning across multiple settings.
  • Support teachers, parents, and other adults in supervising the child in classrooms or home/community settings.
  • Aide in providing therapeutic structure and setting clear limits for the child.
  • Implement behavioral intervention plans and alternative activities to redirect challenging behaviors.
  • Promote positive relationships with teachers, aides, families, siblings, and peers.

Employment Status: Per Diem

(Not eligible for full‑time benefits including medical and retirement)
