General Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Charge RN and Program Manager, the Behavioral Health Tech utilizes behavioral interventions, medical, and technical skills to support the patient care team.

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in identifying patients' problems, needs, and strengths.
  2. Assist in providing treatment plans based on observations of patient behavior and contribute to discharge planning.
  3. Implement patients' treatment plans by monitoring progress and communicating behavior information to team members.
  4. Detect and identify unsafe environmental conditions and patient behaviors.
  5. Facilitate therapeutic activities for patients.
  6. Monitor patients during clinical and medical therapies.
  7. Promote a safe patient milieu and monitor the environment for safety concerns.
  8. Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene needs such as showering and toileting.
  9. Transport patients as needed.
  10. Record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and weight.
  11. Perform blood glucose monitoring and collect specimens as directed.
  12. Complete annual NCI and behavioral health training modules.
  13. Take emergency actions when necessary.
  14. Report symptoms and significant changes in patient condition or behavior to the RN.
  15. Assist with admission, discharge, and transfer processes.
  16. Transport patients within the hospital and assist with moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
  17. Maintain cleanliness and order in patient rooms, including making beds and replacing soiled linen.
  18. Restock rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.
  19. Provide care for one or multiple patients, with specific attention during 1:1 safety assignments, maintaining constant visual monitoring within 3 feet.
  20. Implement safety measures under NCI to maintain a secure environment.
  21. Intervene during episodes of aggressive or potentially violent behavior to prevent harm to self or others.
General Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: 0-3 years in a healthcare setting required.

Licenses/Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training required within 3 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work collaboratively to ensure quality patient care.
  • Basic computer skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under stress.
  • Knowledge of Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) techniques.
