Job description

Position Title

Behavioral Health Tech, Marillac (Days) - Marillac Campus

Position Summary / Career Interest: The Behavioral Health Tech, under general supervision, provides basic patient care to all patients including those in isolation. The Behavioral Health Tech offers age-specific assistance with activities of daily living and therapeutic measures that help reduce agitation and increase comfort. The role includes assisting with daily activities, teaching new skills, ensuring safety, managing behaviors, planning activities, reinforcing treatment plans, and documenting within the EMR.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  1. Collect data (e.g., vital signs, weights, I&O) for initial, shift, and ongoing assessment as delegated by the RN per department standards.
  2. Complete patient safety rounds and contraband checks.
  3. Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and suggest improvements within unit, department, and hospital standards.
  4. Facilitate or co-facilitate patient goals, exercise groups, and other assigned groups.
  5. Recognize and report patient safety concerns or behavioral changes to the RN.
  6. Share care activities/procedures among disciplines to ensure patient-centered, efficient care.
  7. Understand and apply General Safety/Falls Prevention Program protocols.
  8. Follow department/unit standards when providing care.
  9. Supervise patients, ensuring their basic needs are met at all times.
  10. Support treatment outcomes through appropriate interventions.
  11. Model positive behavior and problem-solving techniques.
  12. Assist with structured group activities.
  13. Complete required documentation, forms, and reports per policy.
  14. Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly unit environment.
  15. Assist with laundry of patient clothing as needed.
  16. Provide crisis intervention and initiate emergency response when necessary.
  17. Attend staff meetings and required training annually.
  18. Monitor patient phone calls and visitations as required.
  19. Review patient case histories and familiarize with treatment plan goals.
  20. Understand organizational policies and procedures.
  21. Perform CPR and basic skills as required using CPI techniques.
  22. Possess the competencies required for the assigned unit or department.
  23. Other duties as assigned, recognizing that responsibilities may vary by department or unit.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One to three months of related experience or training.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • One or more years of acute care psychiatric experience or two years of related education in psychology, counseling, nursing, or a related field.
Required Licensure and Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Heartsaver certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), obtained within 30 days.
Required Language Skills
  • Fluent in English, with the ability to speak and understand.
Knowledge Requirements
  • Proficient computer skills.
