Job summary

Western Tidewater Community Service Board in Virginia is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician for the School Intervention Program. This full-time role supports students with behavioral challenges within a school setting.

Requires an Associate’s degree in human services and First Aid/CPR within 30 days of hire; experience with children is preferred. Responsibilities include implementing interventions, documenting progress, and collaborating with educators and families.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in human services required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Crisis intervention training preferred.
  • At least one year of experience with children/adolescents with behavioral challenges.
  • School-based or mental health experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support skill-building activities including coping and problem-solving.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Engage in required training to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

We are seeking a Behavioral Health Technician for our School Intervention Program (SCIP).

Responsibilities & Duties for Behavioral Health Technician:

1.Implement individualized behavioral intervention plans under the supervision of a licensed mental health professional.

2.Provide direct support to students during the school day to promote behavioral self-control, social skills, and conflict resolution.

3.Utilize evidence-based behavioral management strategies to support students in the classroom and other school settings.

4.Document daily progress notes and maintain accurate service records in compliance with agency, Medicaid, and state requirements.

5.Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and school counselors to integrate support into the student’s educational program.

6.Assist with crisis intervention, de-escalation, and safety planning when behavioral emergencies occur.

7.Participate in IEP meetings, treatment team meetings, and parent conferences as directed by the clinical supervisor.

8.Support skill-building activities including coping strategies, social communication, and problem-solving exercises.

9.Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries in all interactions with students, families, and school staff.

10.Engage in professional development activities and required training to maintain compliance with agency and regulatory standards.

11.Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Administrator, Director ,or Deputy Director.

Qualifications and Skills for Behavioral Health Technician:
Education/Equivalent:
· Associate’s degree in human services required.
Experience:
· At least one year of experience working with children/adolescents with emotional or behavioral challenges.
· School-based or mental health experience preferred.
Certifications:
· First Aid/CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
· Crisis intervention training preferred.
Skills
· Observing, recording, and reporting behaviors and behavioral management.
· Service planning process and major components of the client treatment plan of care.
· Planning and scheduling.
· Direct health care training.
· Identifying community resources and organizations.
· Coordination of resources and activities.
· Development and implementation of treatment plans.
· Identifying and documenting program needs.
· Appropriate application of OSHA regulations.
