Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in behavioral health settings, ensuring safety.

  • Monitor and document behavior, mood, sleep, and program participation.

The BHT plays a critical role in maintaining safety, supporting stabilization, monitoring behaviors, implementing treatment interventions, and promoting the emotional and physical well-being of each individual served.This position supports a trauma-informed, person-centered environment and ensures that care is delivered with dignity, respect, and cultural humility.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Direct Support and Patient CareProvides direct patient care to individuals with psychiatric or co-occurring disorders, ensuring safety and well-being at all times.Follows the plan of care, including observation levels, safety checks, and supervision.Assists individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as hygiene, meals, mobility, and personal care, while promoting autonomy.Monitors and documents behavior, mood, affect, sleep, intake/output, and participation in programming.Supports individuals experiencing crisis using de-escalation, grounding, redirection, and therapeutic engagement techniques.Responds appropriately to behavioral or medical emergencies and all facility codes.Therapeutic Environment and Program SupportHelps maintain a structured, safe, and therapeutic environment within the unit or crisis setting.Leads or co-facilitates skills groups, recreational activities, psychoeducational sessions, and coping-skills practice as assigned.Encourages patient participation in therapeutic activities and supports treatment goals.Monitors and supports individuals during transitions, meals, quiet room time, visitation, and safe transport.Safety, Crisis Prevention, and InterventionIdentifies triggers, early warning signs, and changes in behavior; reports concerns to clinical and nursing staff promptly.Utilizes trauma-informed, least-restrictive intervention strategies to prevent escalation.Implements protocols for special precautions, suicide prevention, elopement risk, violence precautions, and environmental safety rounds.Demonstrates appropriate techniques for managing aggressive or unsafe behavior.Documentation and CommunicationAccurately documents observations, interventions, incidents, and care in the electronic health record (EHR).Communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient needs, risk factors, and progress.Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings, shift reports, and clinical hand-offs.Teamwork, Professionalism, and QualityParticipates in quality improvement activities and adheres to organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.Demonstrates infection control practices and contributes to a clean, safe environment.Maintains professional boundaries and models respectful, trauma-informed interactions.Supports new team members during onboarding by demonstrating proper unit routines and protocols.Other Duties:Perform other duties as assigned to support the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals served.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position has no supervisory responsibilitiesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or GED.Experience in behavioral health, inpatient psychiatric care, crisis units, emergency departments, or residential treatment programs roles preferred, not required.Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.Must be at least 18 years of age.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Regularly required to lift 20 lbs.Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.Must be able to pull a minimum of 20 lbs.Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.Required to regularly stand and walk.Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from the floor level requiring to work on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting.RHA is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer, prohibits discrimination based on the following protected categories: race, creed, color, national origin, nationality, ancestry, age, sex/gender, marital status, civil status, domestic partnership status, familial status, religion, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, genetic information, liability for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, or disability.Pre-employment screening:Complete criminal backgroundName checked in the registries.
