Job summary

Southern California Hospitals is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Worker to assist nursing staff in caring for behavioral or emotionally disturbed patients. You will help with vital signs, hygiene, safety, and a clean, safe unit environment, while also supporting with supplies and routine clerical tasks.

The role emphasizes compassionate patient care, adherence to HIPAA and infection control, and collaboration with licensed nurses to transport specimens and assist with ADLs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Demonstrated prior patient care experience, in-service training or formal training.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification.
• Understanding of basic medical terminology.
• Must read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Management of Assaultive Behavior Certification upon start date.
• Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only).
• Preferred: CNA certification in CA.

Responsibilities

• REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION OF CARE: Accurately measures and records patient weights and vital signs.
• PATIENT COMFORT AND PRIVACY: Assists with hygiene, elimination, ADLs, while maintaining privacy and infection control.
• COLLABORATION FOR PATIENT CARE: Assists licensed nurse with specimen collection/transport and patient transport.
• COMMUNICATION: Demonstrates professional communication and independent judgement.
