Job summary

Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center in Lawrence, KS is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist to supervise a transitional residential program for adults with recurring mental health disorders. This awake, non-exempt role requires reliable attendance and the ability to provide intensive supervision during overnight hours.

The position emphasizes teamwork within an interdisciplinary setting, strong interpersonal skills, and flexible scheduling, including holidays or weekends.

Qualifications

• One year of college coursework in human services, or one year of experience in the field of human services.
• Reliable transportation and a valid, unrestricted driver's license; be 21 years or older.
• Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
• Some flexibility in assigned working hours; occasional work on holidays, weekends, or overnights.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision and supportive services in a transitional residential environment.
• Maintain a safe, stable, supportive overnight environment for residents.
• Monitor residents during night shifts by performing safety checks.
• Work as part of a pool of Community Support staff for attendant and psychosocial services.
• Provide individualized support within the transitional living environment.
• Be on-call 3–4 days per month to ensure staffing when ill or there is an emergency.
• This is an awake position; regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned as circumstances warrant.

Pay is commensurate with experience within a range of $18.75 to $22.32 per hour. Full time, non-exempt, benefits eligible. Responsibilities:The primary responsibility of the Behavioral Health Specialist position will beto provide supervision and supportive services in a transitional residentialenvironment that serves adults with recurrent mental health disorders.Consistency is a must. Specific duties include but not limited to:

• maintaining a safe, stable, supportive,environment during the overnight hours for residents to reduce the need forhospitalization;
• monitoring residents during this time byperforming safety checks throughout the night;
• providing services as a member of a pool ofCommunity Support staff, to be activated on an as-needed basis for attendantand psychosocial services;
• providing individualized support within thetransitional living environment;
• required on-call rotation of 3-4 days permonth to ensure appropriate staffing when staff are ill or there is anemergency;
• this is an awake position;
• regular and predictable attendance is anessential function of the job.

Qualifications: TheBehavioral Health Specialist position requires but not limited to:

• have one year of collegecourse work in the field of human services or one year of experience in thefield of human services; or other experiences with adults who have severe andpersistent mental illness which can serve as a basis for understanding symptomsand treatment; a combination of at least one year of education, and/or work,and/or experience in the field of human services can substitute for a year inany one area;
• reliable transportation andvalid, unrestricted driver's license; be 21 years or older;
• strong interpersonal skillsand demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations;
• demonstrated ability to exercisesound judgment in a variety of situations;
• some flexibility inassigned working hours; occasional work on holidays, weekends, or overnights
• a commitment tointerdisciplinary and community mental health center approaches; and
• an energetic and positiveapproach to the rapidly evolving changes and challenges of a complex workplace.
