Position Summary

The Behavior Response Team is a newly forming innovative holistic model focused on providing cutting-edge inpatient treatment and stabilization for individuals experiencing agitation due to complex behavioral health, medical, and substance use needs.

The team is led by an Advanced Practice Nurse and aims to reduce workplace violence incidents through education and clinical support to nursing and medical staff on inpatient units and in the Emergency Department. In collaboration with Public Safety and other stakeholders, the team responds proactively to address patient agitation, develop evidence-based treatment plans, recommend medications, and support clinical teams to meet patient needs.

Role: Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will proactively evaluate and mitigate patient agitation, perform interventions to reduce violence, and serve as a critical educational resource for bedside staff. The ideal candidate is compassionate, open-minded, curious, and passionate about workplace safety.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provide evidence-based evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
  • Develop and adjust treatment plans based on patient progress.
  • Provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Complete all clinical documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, public safety, and other team members.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, meetings, and reviews.
  • Coordinate care with case managers, families, and stakeholders.
  • Teach and mentor new nurses and nursing assistants.
  • Engage in quality improvement and research projects.
  • Monitor and improve clinical processes and outcomes.
  • As the program develops, manage team support staff, track performance, supervise team members, and ensure timely consultations.

Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree in a Nurse Practitioner program with mental health specialization, accredited by recognized bodies in Massachusetts.

Licenses & Certifications: Current Nurse Practitioner license in Massachusetts, DEA and MA Controlled Substances certificates or eligibility, national advanced practice certification, and BLS certification.

Experience: At least 2 years as a Nurse Practitioner or 5 years in nursing; experience with agitation, de-escalation, addiction, behavioral health, or dementia is preferred. BIPOC and bilingual candidates are encouraged.

Skills: Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, conflict resolution, effective communication, organizational skills, proficiency with computers, and physical ability to perform job duties.
