Job summary

Discovery Behavioral Health in Fairfax, VA seeks a licensed LVN/LPN to provide compassionate nursing care in a behavioral health setting, under RN supervision. The role supports safe medication administration, patient monitoring, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

This PRN, on-call position emphasizes bedside care, accurate documentation, adherence to policies, and participation in trainings to maintain high standards of patient safety and recovery.

Qualifications

• Must graduate from an approved nursing program and hold a current state license in good standing.
• One year experience in mental health, substance use, or eating disorders is preferred.
• Knowledge of medications, indications, dosages, side effects, and toxicity.
• CPR/First Aid certification required; CPI certification within 90 days of hire; Serv Safe certification within 90 days if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to a behavioral health population in a safe, therapeutic environment.
• Perform vital signs, basic assessments, and procedures to monitor patient health and inform care planning.
• Observe and report changes in mental status, physical condition, or safety risks.
• Administer medications as prescribed and document responses and MARs.
• Collaborate with RNs, physicians, psychiatrists, and the interdisciplinary team to support coordinated care.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with regulations and policies.
• Deliver care under RN or provider supervision and participate in required trainings.
